Sometimes, if children are afraid of the dark, their parents leave on night lights. The idea of these is that they will not be bright enough to keep them awake. Often, though, it is in the gloom of the half-light that our imagination really gets to work. We see shapes and shadows and we turn them, in our mind's eye, into faces and objects. Monsters. Dragons. Terrifying spectral pictures. A new source of illumination is entering your world. You are learning about something or someone. Slowly, fear is giving way to confidence.
