To live is to nurture a garden. So the Romans used to say. In the garden of life there should always be flowers to appreciate and plants to admire. There should also, always, be weeds. We must have something to pit ourselves against, something to be irritated by, something to keep under control and something to beat. We may need to think again about what we'd like to banish from the garden of our emotional life. It has its place as long as we keep on top of it and it does not get on top of us.
