Darkness is just the absence of light. It has no presence, substance or strength. Yet how easily we get sucked into it. Rapidly we start to doubt the very existence of illumination. Even if we have a clear memory of a brighter world, we question this. We figure things could really not have been this way, or they would never have changed so much. Yet the moment anyone lights so much as a candle, everything changes again.
