The truth? The whole truth? Nothing but the truth? It's a comforting thought. If only we could all of us spend our whole time under oath. There would be no more trouble. No more deception. No more confusion or misunderstanding. Mind you, there would be an awful lot of umbrage taken. No more little white lies. No more diplomatic evasions or spared feelings. Sometimes, it can be appropriate and acceptable to mislead marginally. Trust your own judgement in  emotional life.
Many philosophers suggest that instinct is more powerful than intellect. But without the benefit of an intellect, they would not even be able to make such an assertion! Rational arguments can fly back and forth forever. Most people, though, when making a big decision, will always give secret, private, preference to feeling over thought. But, no matter how convincing, their explanations are after the fact. Their feelings have shaped their choices.
