What are you supposed to be doing today? Where are you supposed to be? Who are you supposed to be dealing with? What kind of trouble will you get into if you fail to carry out all your tasks? What will you be in danger of losing? There are some jobs you surely have to do and there is no point in either of us pretending that these can somehow be dispensed with. But are there not other items on your agenda that really need not take up anywhere near so much time and energy? You are entitled to save yourself some stress.Life is not a treasure hunt. We are not placed on this planet so that we can be given a series of clues to solve and mysteries to unravel in the eventual expectation of some enormous reward. Yet many people see it that way. We imagine, somehow, that if we just stick at our mission it will all one day pay off. The thing you seek most sincerely, is actually already much nearer to you than you know. Stop looking quite so intently and start to appreciate more of what already exists before your very eyes. Many great works of science fiction involve Time Machines. Scientists debate whether it will ever be possible to create such a device. But romantics cannot stop wishing that such a facility were available. And it isn't just dreamers who would love to have the power to go forward or back at will. Those of us who feel overburdened with our responsibilities yearn for this ability too. There may be many a process that you cannot halt now, but there is at least one on which you can safely press pause. Take a little time out.
