Few and far between are the musicians who become successful by playing the pieces that give them greatest pleasure. Most soon learn that audiences tend to have particular tastes and preferences. Commercial success involves learning to meet and fulfil those needs and if creative satisfaction of any kind is to accompany that popularity, it is usually achieved by retraining the brain to find enjoyment of a kind, in what one might otherwise be tempted to dismiss. Try learning to like the song that you are being invited to sing.
