Why doesn't the Moon crash into Earth? Why, if we are hurtling through space at 67,000 mph, don't the oceans just fly away leaving empty craters? There are, so the physicists love to assure us, lots of complicated reasons. Though, given the recent world-wide spate of weird weather, we can be forgiven for wondering how well these work. Even so, as you now wrestle with a situation that seems to be 'only just working', you may care to consider that perhaps it deserves more faith than you are currently inclined to place in it.
How important are you? How much do you matter? How many people depend on you? Whose lives might be spoiled if you were somehow unable to accomplish all that others so strongly want you to achieve? I'm not asking you these questions in an attempt to increase your sense of guilt. Rather, I just think it important, under the current cosmic climate, to help you recognise the high regard in which you are being held. Others seem to think that you are yet capable of working a minor miracle. Why should they be wrong?
We all need to know the difference between the things we can change and the things we can't. This is not just so that we can be spared unnecessary angst; there is a practical purpose. If we use up our vital time and energy pursuing impossible objectives, we will end up wasting the resources that might otherwise have been put to a truly constructive use. One of your current problems will sort itself out in time. The other sorely requires effort right now. Today, you will find the courage to make the right choice.
Are you very clever? Of course. Are you also, sometimes, a little slow on the uptake? Absolutely. We all have blind spots and weak points. You are beginning to wonder why you made a recent choice. How did you get talked into it? What were you thinking of? It seems you must have been in an idealistic mood. Now you feel a little foolish. You have started so, regardless of what you feel, you have to finish, don't you? Or do you? You may have entered your situation for the wrong reason but it is still the right. situation to be in.
Do you feel weak and vulnerable, exposed, isolated, powerless, unable to do much more than gawp in amazement as various seemingly ludicrous developments take place? Are they ludicrous? Or is it chiefly your objection to them that makes them seem so ridiculous? Is it worth, do you think, rethinking your ideas and opinions? Might there not be some way to accept a situation and, in doing so, to turn it all to your distinct, long-term advantage? What seems most hopeless is, in fact, most potentially fruitful.
They say you should always, 'Quit while you are ahead.' How, though, are you ever supposed to know whether you are ahead or not?. You feel you can always get a little further, go a little faster, achieve a little more. Unlike some people, you cannot bear to define 'ahead' as 'not too far behind'. Sometimes, though, to be 'not losing' is to be winning!
Every time we turn on the TV, we see people telling us what we need, what we want or what we ought to need and want! They do it in the ad breaks. They do it in the shows. They do it by example, by inference - or by proclamation. The magazines carry much the same message - as do the storefronts and the signs, high above the roads. No wonder we never think for ourselves. You now suspect your route to happiness is complicated and/or expensive. Think again. It is neither. Much of what you need to feel happy, you already have.
You must now forgive yourself for previous errors. Look to the future and you will find it welcoming.Old habits die hard. That's why we have sunsets and sunrises. Our lives are blessed with one new day after another. Each brings a fresh chance to start doing things differently. If we can't seize that opportunity, we can grab the next. Or, if we prefer, we can use nature's generosity as an excuse for laziness. We can keep putting everything off till tomorrow... until there really are no tomorrows left for us.
