Your efforts to simplify a complicated situation appear only to be making it convoluted. Why can you not get a simple answer to a simple question?  Meanwhile, if you want to avoid tying yourself up in knots, do your best to cultivate a patient, philosophical attitude. You can't really speed up a process that needs to be given as much time as it needs. it is never a good idea to act too hastily or to jump to too many conclusions. Things have a way of resolving themselves at times like this without the need to make decisive life-changing gestures. Other people will tend to make them, even if you sit back and do next to nothing. The dramas that have recently been stirred up will yet play themselves out in a better way than you fear.
