If we want to understand someone, we are often advised to walk a mile in their shoes. This may be an admirable technique for preventing ourselves from judging others too hastily but it may cause others to judge us instead. I would certainly leap to some fast and unfavourable conclusions about a person, if I woke up one morning and discovered that they had taken away my personal footwear and gone for a stroll! This week's challenges (and opportunities) all involve the need to allow for differing levels of empathy.
