We all want to know how things work. Some of us take a particular interest in machines and systems. Others direct their attention to psychological mechanisms. 'What makes this person feel that way?' We do our figuring, we reach our conclusions and we make our plans on the basis of those answers. But once in a while, we need to look at ourselves and the way in which we perform such calculations, just in case we are mistaken in our thought processes.
Everybody is blessed with great adaptability. Or should that be cursed? There is hardly a situation we cannot adjust to or a person that you cannot somehow get along with. At times, though, our chameleon-like characteristics cause us to wonder quite what you truly feel. And if you had been asked your opinion about a matter, you would have made a clear declaration. Now, you are starting to hold the opposite view. Times have changed. Can they change again? Worry about that, if or when they do change. It's no use covering your back, if you are going to leave your front unguarded. We all have defence mechanisms but even the best of these can't be truly comprehensive. We maintain a long list of items and issues to worry about, whilst blithely ignoring other sources of potential problems. Then we wonder why difficulties have arisen out of the blue. That's OK. Life would be pretty dull if we could cover for every eventuality. Don't judge yourself harshly, just because you don't have superhuman powers of prescience.
