We are all creatures of habit. Yet we all understand that there may be times when it is unwise for us to fall back into familiar routines. Why do you keep experiencing particular urges and impulses? Why, even if you satisfy these needs, is it only a matter of time before you want more of the same? When it comes to basic physical requirements like food or sleep, there is no real point in questioning any of this. But might you now be trying to apply the same old solutions to the same old problems in an area that calls for a radical rethink?
Can we always trust the information that we find in an encyclopedia? That somewhat depends on the writers and editors. Though they are conscientious, they sometimes error in favour of conventional wisdom or generally agreed definitions. Should cutting-edge research call those assertions into question, the textbook may not reflect the most up-to-date thinking. Now we turn once more to the dilemma that you have been wrestling with for some while. What if you don't have all the facts? But you have enough to be going on with.
Never say never again.' This was once a James Bond film. Yet if you or I were a secret agent, we might very soon tire of the task. All those dangerous situations, evil bad guys, hair-raising races, friends who turn out to be foes. Why, it's all probably worse for the blood pressure than salt! Yet, in one guise or another, 007 does come back for more. And, if the movies are to be believed, the whole world has reason to be thankful for his short memory. In real life too, there are times when it can be good to resume an old position.
When people make hasty decisions, fired by an intense reaction to the challenge, they are sometimes said to be 'cutting off their nose to spite their face.' Or, 'Shooting themselves in the foot.' Usually, when such mistakes are made, they are accompanied by a lot of energetic explanation and justification. But in your current situation, there is a great need for calm, considered judgement and positive progress. That can only be attained if you can set the right example and focus your attention on the bigger picture.?
