If we suspect that someone dislikes us, we find it much harder to show them the most easy-going, attractive side of our nature. We have to wrestle with an instinctive urge to live up to their nasty expectations or to fulfil the dark prophecy they are projecting upon us. It is almost as if we say, 'Oh! If that is what they think of me, I shall treat them with disdain and disrespect.' Such cycles, once begun, are hard to break. Make an effort to overcome a negative expectation.
