Heroes ride to the rescue. Heroines save the day. And what about non-combatants? Storytellers rarely apply such cliches here because, well, if a person is deliberately not getting involved in a situation, they aren't doing anything dramatic. Or so, at least, it appears. Actually, they may well be wrestling with their conscience and fighting to suppress an almost overwhelming urge to storm into battle. But in their hearts they know that this will only exacerbate tension and negativity.
