We can't set out on a genuine journey of self-discovery whilst ignoring the needs and feelings of others. If we want to conquer our own inner demon, we had best be understanding of the demons that dwell in our companions. Self-righteousness feels satisfying. But it is the psychological equivalent of junk food; the more it fills you up, the more it blocks you up. There's something you now need to get rid of. Don't suppress it. And try to extend sympathy, rather than disapproval, towards others.
