Those who deny themselves of eternal happiness, they lack discrimination of lower nature from the higher, because they are of animal nature so they miss the opportunities of self realization. They attracted to instant happiness in form of enjoying worldly things.
But who are aimed at higher virtuous way of life for self realization. As we are not for undergoing consequences of past actions alone, we can move towards god in this body for eternal peace and true everlasting happiness! In this way we can free ourselves from the shackles of sorrow and sufferings by doing whatever is expected of us in unattached manner.Higher knowledge is to free us of worldly sorrows, when we have higher knowledge-everythings would be as it is but we do not indulge ourselves in petty issues because we are towards higher aims-liberation.
Liberation from NAME AND FAME game, liberating self from doership that is ego which gave us only troubles.ARISE!AWAKE! GO IN THE FOLD OF MEN OF DIVINE WISDOM,SIT NEAR THEM WITH DUE REVERENCE TO THEM AND RECEIVE DIVINE KNOWLEDGE.
Things which allures and appeases the fire of senses please us and we this state is known as happiness and when we do not get them it generate feeling of sorrow. Path of goodness is aimed at manifestation of divinity residing in this body.
Here's a story:- Nachiketa was son of UDDALAK-who performed VISWAJIT YAJNA and gifted cows and wealth to Brahmins f,blinded by name and fame game he donated cows-old and sick cows too infirm to drink eat or yield milk,a liability for to the Brahmins. Nachiketa requested his father to not donate old and sick cows to save his father of the consequences of giving useless gifts. Angry father donate nachiketa to Yama. Nachiketa spend three nights outside Yamlok as Yama could not accept anybody before time and with body but seeing firmness of Nachiketa Yama blessed him and gave three gifts one gift for one day each-staying outside Yamlok.
First -On his return home his father would welcome him and he should be free from wrath and be in total equanimity. Second was to impart him of Agnidivya that enable entry into heaven which is free from any sign of thirst,hunger,old-age and fear of death. When Nachiketa narrated all as it -Yama was impressed with his excellent memory, steadfastness and power of assimilation of Nachiketa.
Third was higher knowledge of soul, unfolding the truth that knowing soul is beyond the ordinary understanding -even the gods and goddess fell prey to this doubt. Yama when found him fit to receive the highest knowledge when no temptation could lure him.
Most of us succumb to temptations unaware of the consequences of actions. Resistance to temptations lead to higher path to supreme knowledge and be one with supreme!
