'It's not the winning that matters; it's the taking part that counts.' Yeah, yeah. And that's what those three little plinths are for at the Olympics. They line them up: the bronze, the silver and the gold - and they give them all that speech, don't they? Actually, it would be a better world if they did. It really isn't the winning that counts and we do ourselves a great deal of damage when we perpetrate the culture of competition. What matters is not how good at something you can manage to be, it's just how good you are.
