When it suits us, we all play dumb. If there is something we don't want to see - or if there is a situation we want to avoid, we pretend to be oblivious to a factor that actually, we are fully conscious of. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with this - as long as we know what it is that we are doing. Trouble comes when we try to kid ourselves that we haven't seen something that we have seen. Either deliberately ignore what you want to ignore - or face it bravely. But don't  telling yourself a story you don't believe.
