Nicely, for sure, but firmly enough to be heard.
There is a problem with unwritten rules. They are not universal. One person's final frontier is another's first base. Actually, it's worse than that. Those rules can be inconsistent - even within a single individual. One day it's fine to do or say something. The next it's an outrageous imposition. Somewhere in your world now a balancing act is proving very difficult to maintain. If you don't know what's expected of you, ask.
