If, as some philosophers claim, we see what we want to see, hear what we want to hear and believe what we want to believe, why are so many of our experiences unpleasant? And if we are the architects of our own destiny, why do we create such unsteady shelters? Might it be because somewhere within our collective psyche, there is a sense of the moribund and the macabre? It is as if we don't really believe that we are entitled to the best, so we gravitate towards the worst. But you can do better than that.
What are you supposed to do when you look at a problematic situation and you just don't even know where to start dealing with it? You simply have to dive in somewhere and make a start! You would ideally like to make a careful study of a complex situation and reach a wise, considered, conclusion about the most appropriate strategy and approach. But all the time you are doing that, the reality is encroaching. Don't waste time worrying,Have you ever visited a film set? They have fake streets that look completely convincing but when you peep behind, you soon see that the buildings are simply large flat painted panels, propped up with bits of old timber. For the purposes of movie-making, appearance is everything. Yet if you were to find yourself suddenly transported to such a place and given no further explanation, you would naturally expect it to be very real. Keep that in mind as you now evaluate a potential problem. It may look big and bad but.We may not be able to travel through time but imagine what you might do if only this were possible. What would you go back and change? What would you go forward to secure? You could make the present a very different place if only you could change some small aspect of the past. And as for the future? Well, why are we wasting time with all this conjecture? Because, in one crucial but subtle way, you can attain such a power this week. You can alter your understanding of an aspect of your history. That could improve everything.Mechanisms that depend on a hair-trigger, often prove unreliable. The slightest signal can set them off, often with undesirable consequences. Much the same can be said for attitudes and demeanours. If we are too quick to fly off the handle, we upset people unnecessarily. But then, if we are too passive, folk end up walking all over us and taking blatant advantage of our pleasant personalities. This week, you really don't need to turn yourself into rampaging vigilante. But you might benefit from becoming just a little sharper
